Plot Overview

The story follows Aghathiyaa (Jiiva), an art director, whose film project gets canceled, putting him in financial trouble. Desperate, he turns his film set into a haunted house attraction, but soon realizes that real spirits reside there.

As he digs deeper, he uncovers a mystery linked to a colonial-era mansion in Pondicherry, once owned by a French governor. The mansion hides an ancient secret related to Siddha medicine, an Indian healing practice. With the help of his fiancée Veena (Raashii Khanna) and mentor Dr. Siddhartha (Arjun Sarja), he must unravel the truth before it’s too late.

The film jumps between two timelines, linking past and present events to reveal shocking secrets.

Cast & Performances

  • Jiiva delivers a strong performance as Aghathiyaa, portraying emotional depth convincingly.
  • Arjun Sarja dominates the screen as Dr. Siddhartha, adding mystery and intensity to the narrative.
  • Raashii Khanna plays Aghathiyaa’s fiancée, but her role is limited and underdeveloped.
  • Supporting actors like Rohini, Yogi Babu, and Edward Sonnenblick contribute well, but their characters lack depth.

While the performances are solid, the weak screenplay and uneven character development hold them back.

Direction & Technical Aspects

Pa. Vijay, known for his previous films, attempts a grand vision by blending fantasy, horror, mystery, and drama. However, the execution falters due to an overcomplicated script and slow pacing.

Music & Cinematography

  • Yuvan Shankar Raja’s soundtrack is decent but fails to leave a lasting impact.
  • Deepak Kumar Padhy’s cinematography captures the eerie atmosphere well, but the VFX is inconsistent. Some scenes look visually stunning, while others appear low-quality.

Critical Reviews & Ratings

The movie has received mixed to negative reviews from critics.

  • Filmy Focus rated it 1.5/5, calling it a fantasy thriller that fails to impress.
  • India Today praised the concept but criticized the weak screenplay and overuse of melodrama.
  • Industry Hit gave it 3.25/5, highlighting Jiiva and Arjun Sarja’s performances while mentioning predictability as a drawback.

Overall, critics agree that Aghathiyaa is an ambitious but flawed film with a messy narrative.
