Plot Story
The story begins on a fancy cruise ship where Ranjeet Dobriyal, UK’s seventh richest man, celebrates his 100th birthday. Things change quickly when Ranjeet dies suddenly during the celebration. His will creates chaos because multiple people claim to be his son and heir to his fortune.
The cruise becomes a floating battle as different fake sons compete for the inheritance. The ship has company bosses like Maya (Chitrangada Singh), Bedi (Dino Morea), and Dev (Fardeen Khan). Everyone becomes a suspect in this floating murder mystery.
Cast Performance
Akshay Kumar brings his usual comedy timing and physical humor to the role. His ability to play different characters works well, though some feel his performance is similar to his previous work in the series. I found his energy still entertaining, but it lacks the freshness of earlier movies.
Riteish Deshmukh shines in his comedy scenes and has great chemistry with other actors. Abhishek Bachchan adds class to the comedy but gets limited screen time. Sanjay Dutt, Nana Patekar, and Jackie Shroff bring experience to their roles.
The female cast does well, but their characters feel more like decoration than important parts of the story. Johnny Lever and Chunky Panday provide good comedy support with their classic styles.
Direction and Technical Work
Tarun Mansukhani handles the big cast reasonably well, keeping the franchise’s style while adding mystery elements. The cruise ship setting looks beautiful on screen, and the costume design fits each character well.
The movie’s editing could be better, especially in the second half where it feels slow. Some scenes go on too long while others end too quickly. The music and sound effects support the comedy but sometimes become too loud.
Music and Entertainment
The soundtrack has catchy songs that fit the cruise setting. The dance numbers use different ship locations creatively. However, none of the songs become as memorable as tracks from previous movies in the series.
For entertainment value, the movie delivers what fans expect from the series. The humor ranges from physical comedy to wordplay, with mixed results. Some jokes work perfectly while others feel forced or outdated.
Reviews and Ratings
Critics gave mixed reviews to Housefull 5. Bollywood Hungama called it a paisa-vasool killer comedy and praised the cast performances and humor. They liked the unpredictable ending and overall entertainment value.
Koimoi was harsh, calling it torture and cringefest and criticized the illogical plot and poor jokes. IMDb users rated it 4.5/10, showing lukewarm reception from general audiences.
Most critics agreed the movie has commercial appeal but lacks artistic quality. The reviews show the challenge of keeping long-running franchises fresh and relevant.
Box Office Numbers
Housefull 5 opened strong with ₹23-25 crore on day one, making it the third-highest opening of 2025. The movie had low morning shows (7.59%) but stronger evening shows (27.18%), which is typical for mass entertainers.
The box office success came from the established franchise value, Akshay Kumar’s star power, and lack of major competition. The numbers show audiences still support familiar franchises even when content doesn’t break new ground.
What I Liked
I appreciate that the movie doesn’t pretend to be more than commercial entertainment. The chemistry between regular cast members remains engaging, especially between Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh. The cruise ship setting provides a fresh backdrop for the franchise’s humor.
The murder mystery element adds intrigue that wasn’t in previous movies. Some comedy scenes are well-executed, showing the franchise can still generate laughs when the material works. The movie’s willingness to embrace its own silliness can be charming.
What Could Be Better
The plot has logical problems that become obvious as the story continues. The treatment of female characters feels outdated and doesn’t match changing social expectations. The humor often relies on repetitive jokes and predictable punchlines.
The large cast leads to underdeveloped characters and missed opportunities. The movie’s length works against it, with some scenes feeling unnecessary. I felt the balance between comedy and mystery could have been better handled.
Final Thoughts
Housefull 5 delivers what fans expect from the franchise but doesn’t push comedy boundaries. The movie works for those seeking mindless entertainment and familiar faces delivering familiar humor. The box office success shows there’s still an audience for this type of entertainment.
For Housefull franchise fans, the movie provides enough laughs for a theater visit. However, viewers wanting sophisticated humor or innovative filmmaking will likely feel disappointed. The movie knows its audience and delivers exactly what they expect.
Overall, I’d say Housefull 5 serves its purpose as escapist entertainment. It’s not groundbreaking cinema, but it fulfills its role as a commercial entertainer for those seeking two hours of fun without intellectual demands.
